Visit Dorset Aids Recovery With First Simpleview Europe Website to be Built on the Simpleview CMS

Categories: Our News

The new website for Visit Dorset reflects the uniqueness of the destination and showcases all that the county has to offer, utilising the full range of tools at Simpleview’s disposal.

Dorset is located on the South Coast of England, offering access to stunning coast and countryside, including the UNESCO-protected Jurassic coastline, the only UNESCO natural World Heritage Site in England.

The site,, is the latest in a series of destination sites that Simpleview has developed for Visit Dorset since 2007 and replaces a site launched in 2016.  However, it’s the first client site for Simpleview Europe to be integrated with the Simpleview CMS (Content Management System).

Visit Dorset approached Simpleview with a clear vision; to promote the county as a world-class holiday destination and to support the local economy by generating more visits and bookings as part of Dorset’s COVID recovery strategy.

The site sets out to captivate the visitor with a bold design, impactful imagery and video and inspirational content to encourage visitors to make more of their trip and invite residents to explore their area.  A thematic layout allows visitors to discover Dorset’s great outdoors, with content categorised into intuitive Coast, Natural Beauty, Walking and Ancient Sites pages. Dorset is ready to welcome visitors for the perfect Autumn escape too, with some striking imagery reflecting the county’s awesome vistas and colours.

The CrowdRiff visual marketing platform will allow Visit Dorset to communicate an authentic message to their target markets, support their partners and extend their marketing budget via user-generated content (UGC).

The Simpleview DAM (Digital Asset Management) system delivers an efficient storage solution for Visit Dorset’s vast media library of photos, videos, audio content and documentation and simplifies the distribution of media to partners, members and stakeholders.

The Visit Dorset team will shortly be implementing dynamic content, ensuring that the site displays relevant content to the visitor in terms of whether they are in destination or forward planning from outside Dorset, as well as content that is applicable to repeat visitors.

The project also includes a series of microsites for individual towns within Dorset using the main Visit Dorset site templates. offers over-arching county-wide information, whilst the town destination microsites will provide more detailed, local information specific to the town.

An ongoing SEO strategy will ensure that the site continues to excel in terms of visitor traffic.  In the previous site’s first year in 2017 it generated 1,965,215 sessions, rising to 2,596,002 sessions in 2019, an increase of 32%!

Rachel Symes of Visit Dorset comments: "We are delighted with the redeveloped Visit Dorset website and thrilled to be the first Simpleview Europe client to build on the Simpleview CMS. The implementation of CrowdRiff allows us to authentically tell the story of Dorset through the eyes of our visitors; the galleries on our website are constantly updated with UGC which keeps it fresh and relevant whilst increasing engagement with potential visitors.

We are looking forward to rolling out microsites for Lyme Regis and Sherborne to provide more localised destination content. The Simpleview team has been professional and supportive throughout the whole project and provided us with a magnificent website which uses innovative functionality and showcases Dorset as a world-class destination, supporting our members and local visitor economy at a key time in our recovery planning."
