Visit, Meet and Film - Gloucester Has it All!
12th March 2021
Simpleview’s new sites for Gloucester will inspire both leisure and business trips to the cathedral city.
Gloucester is nestled between the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean and is Britain’s most inland port, with a rich history dating back to Roman times. Gloucester’s 11th century gothic cathedral is the site of Henry III’s coronation and the final resting place of King Edward II. The city also boasts Gloucester Docks, a popular shopping and food and drink destination, set against the backdrop of the beautifully restored Victorian warehouses and the vast Gloucester Sharpness Canal.
The destination site, www.visitgloucester.co.uk, developed on Simpleview’s Tourism Pro platform replaces the previous Tourism Essentials version. Incorporating Visit Gloucester’s new visual identity, the site features enhanced presentation and content on the city’s history, culture, and tourism businesses using striking photography, panoramic video and carefully curated guest content to inspire visitors. The site has been developed to be more user-centric and is responsive across all platforms and devices.
The new website was set up by the council’s Visit Gloucester team and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England’s Great Place Scheme supported by Gloucester Culture Trust.
Two additional microsites for Meet Gloucester (conferencing) and Film Gloucester (film office) have also been launched. Gloucester’s stunning architecture has made it a popular location for many TV and movie producers, both in the UK and Hollywood. The city’s portfolio includes Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Dr Who, Mary Queen of Scots and Disney’s Alice Through The Looking Glass.
The sites will interface with Visit Britain’s TXGB platform (Tourism Exchange Great Britain) enabling consumers and online distributors worldwide to search and book experiences with Gloucester’s visitor economy businesses.
Rebecca Clay, Tourism and Destination Marketing Manager at Gloucester City Council said: "The development of a new visitor website is central to the Council’s destination marketing strategy. We have been working hard with the developers and our stakeholders to build visitgloucester.co.uk to aid the city’s visitor economy recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. With every destination in the world reopening as citizens are vaccinated, competition for visitors will be more fierce than ever. The new websites provide Gloucester and its visitor economy businesses with the tools and resources to stand out in a crowded marketplace."
Ben Hau, Tourism & Destination Senior Marketing Officer at Gloucester City Council, comments: "This is an exciting step for Gloucester as the new website has enabled us to create a portal for people seeking information on the city’s visitor economy, business tourism, film locations and inward investment opportunities. The experience and expertise of the Simpleview team has been invaluable to help manage a project of this scale."
