New Site for the 'Original Wellbeing Destination' Sets a New Standard for Destination Websites

Simpleview’s new site for Visit Bath has been developed with input from the city’s businesses to ensure that the destination has all the functionality and content to showcase its all-year-round unique attributes to visitors.

Simpleview was contracted by Visit West, the DMO for for Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset earlier this year to develop a site which would set a new standard for destination websites. The organisation supports the visitor economy of the region which is worth £2.33billion and supports 45,000 jobs. Visit West operates the Meet Bristol & Bath Convention Bureau and the Visit Bath and Visit Bristol consumer websites.

The resulting site, visitbath.co.uk now capitalises on ‘long-read’ content and themes, allowing easier segmentation of information.  The improved functionality and magazine-style, image-led design allows for more detailed business listings, availability searches and related searches, video content, special offers, an itinerary planning option, Google Map plotting and multiple foreign language options via Google Translate.  Improving functionality for mobile users was particularly key with around 64% of views to visitbath.co.uk coming from mobiles, along with the efficiency of sharing regional databases avoiding duplication of data.

The site also features more opportunity for bookable product and availability from multiple channels including TXGB, HotelPlanner, Eviivo, Guestlink, Freetobook, Supercontrol and Sykes Cottages.

Visitors can plan itineraries to directly match their needs with trip search options including dog-friendly, family-friendly, and accessible, as well as quickly and easily explore event listings within the What’s On section, maximising on Bath’s exciting and dynamic calendar of events and festivals.

An improved Instagram presence reflects the high-quality of images and content shared on the Visit Bath social channels while the visible navigation bar allows for ease of use and journey around the site.

Future developments include installing The AudioEye Toolbar to provide web personalisation tools that allow end-users to customise their user experience to meet their individual needs.

Kathryn Davis, Visit West’s Director of Tourism says: "We are thrilled to launch the new Visit Bath site, with increased functionality and a new look and feel.  We are fortunate to be able to call on worldwide expertise from Simpleview, along with input from Bath businesses and our own team who have significant experience in developing and delivering strong digital destinations and campaigns.  The site will continue to evolve and grow with regular additions to content, particularly the blog posts, which have been so successful."

Richard Veal, Managing Director of Simpleview Europe comments, "We are delighted to have had the opportunity to redevelop the new Visit Bath website. Not only is Bath one of the UK’s most beautiful cities, the team at Visit West is hugely experienced and always make the very most of the tools and services we provide. The resulting site is a fantastic achievement, presenting the destination in its very best light and in a way that the local tourism industry can rightfully be proud of. We are confident that the website will be transformational in attracting visitors to the city and generating new business to its tourism providers. We are looking forward to working with Visit West to ensure that this happens."
