Tourism Pro is the Way to Go for VisitRjukan

Categories: Our News

The destination of Rjukan in the Telemark region of Norway has a brand-new Tourism Pro site which will inspire visitors to explore this fascinating destination for themselves when the time is right.

The main aim for is to allow the destination to share its tourism offer with the world by acting as a platform for stories from the past, representing the destination’s rich history and heritage, and inspiration for the present, with content themed around outdoor adventures, shopping and great local food and drink.

Rjukan is on the UNESCO world heritage list due to the part it played in World War II, when English and Norwegian soldiers foiled an attempt by the German army to build a nuclear bomb at the Vemork factory near Rjukan.  Another attraction for visitors is the giant sun mirrors. The town is shrouded in the shadow of the surrounding mountains for half of the year but in 2013, computer-powered mirrors were installed at the top of the mountain above the town, flooding the town square with natural light during the dark winter months.

As part of the development process, the Simpleview project team attended a design workshop early last year to allow them to fully immerse themselves in the Rjukan brand and familiarise themselves with the culture of the destination.

The site’s design reflects VisitRjukan’s brand colours, a combination of red, blue and green and the images and buttons have been presented as geometric shapes to reflect the destination’s branding.  Eye-catching imagery aims to entice hikers, climbers, skiers and cyclists to consider the destination for the adventure of a lifetime.  Rjukan is keen to promote sustainable products that participate in Norway’s Green Travel certification scheme by  featuring the scheme’s logo for successful providers.

The flexibility of Simpleview’s Tourism Pro solution means that the destination has been able to implement optional extras such as the blog and TripAdvisor integration. An English version of the site is coming shortly.

Hege Naess of VisitRjukan comments: "We are very pleased with our new site which we think not only perfectly represents our new branding and marketing strategy but will boost visits to this amazing destination."
