Simpleview’s bold new site for the Outer Hebrides aims to lift the spirit and offer hope for better times ahead.

The Outer Hebrides are a chain of inter-connected islands located on Europe’s Atlantic edge.  Known for their peace and tranquillity, rich history and warm Hebridean welcome, each is diverse with its own unique way of life.  The destination currently attracts around 220,000 visitors per annum, supporting an industry of around 1000 FTE jobs worth an estimated £65+ million to the area's economy.

The new site offers a fresh new look, making greater use of imagery and video to showcase the islands’ rugged natural beauty in a more accessible way, using the destination’s six brand stories ie. Wildlife up Close, Epic Landscapes, History with Mystery, Gaelic Culture, Food & Drink and Adventure & Relaxation.

The site increases visibility for the Hebridean Way, a long-distance walking and cycling route incorporating 10 islands, 6 causeways and 2 ferries.  A dedicated channel site with its own unique identity and content themed around its abundant offer delivers a one-stop-shop for visitors and businesses.

A dedicated ‘Become an Islander’ section has been introduced as part of a bid to attract residents to counter a falling population.  The Scottish islands are consistently among the happiest places to live in the UK, according to data from the Office for National Statistics and others.

Gaelic and English sit side by side on the home page and the site boasts its own Gaelic section to boost its profile.   A comprehensive Blog section covering a whole range of topics, from peat cutting to the Herring Girls allows the site’s content to be constantly refreshed and helps to add personality to the Outer Hebrides brand.

The team at Outer Hebrides Tourism has taken feedback from its members onboard so the site delivers a more powerful presentation of its businesses in the listings sections, including larger photos, social media feeds and the opportunity to host videos.  Online booking will also be introduced for the first time in the coming weeks.

Robert McKinnon, Chief Executive of Outer Hebrides Tourism Community Interest Company comments: "After a year that left many parts of the tourism industry on their knees, this new website acts as a vote of confidence in our industry.  We hope it will inspire both the businesses enduring hard times and visitors who are planning to visit in years to come. We were delighted  by the passion which the Simpleview team brought to the project - both in translating our needs into a  tangible structure and crafting a design that captures the spirit of our islands."
