Destination Bristol Says 'Bonjour' to its Top Inbound Market

Long term New Mind | tellUs client, Destination Bristol is adding a dedicated French language site to its tourism armoury.

Located in South West England, the city of Bristol has its own unmistakeable identity with a rich and colourful past which is reinforced today by its passionate locals and spirited fans. Bristol is famed for its maritime history and its reputation as a source of inspiration for writers, film directors, artists, scientists, musicians and architects.

The new French language site aims to encourage more French speaking visitors to use the VisitBristol website for pre-trip planning and in-trip information and ultimately support the DMO’s wider objective of generating longer stays.   The French language version will also increase visibility for the site by boosting its SEO performance for French search terms.  

Destination Bristol wants to be part of the movement to be a global community by demonstrating that it is open and welcoming to all visitors and languages, particularly in light of the current political situation.  The development of further dedicated language sites will follow…

Destination Bristol’s decision to target the French market is backed up by some interesting statistics from VisitBritain:

  • Most trips are by those aged 25-44, but the cohort of 45-54 also saw growth over most of the past decade
  • More than half of holiday visitors from France (excluding British nationals) are making a repeat trip to Britain (within ten years)
  • 27% of visiting friends and relatives (VFR) visitors from France are British nationals
  • 97% of departing visitors (excluding British nationals) are ‘likely’ or ‘extremely likely’ to recommend a visit to Britain

Popular activities include:

  • Sightseeing of famous buildings and monuments
  • Visiting a pub
  • Shopping
