New Maps Entice Visitors to Explore Beyond the 'Original Modern City'

Marketing Manchester’s new interactive maps set out to entice visitors to experience the diversity of the boroughs and districts of Greater Manchester.
Developed by New Mind | tellUs, the first of the two maps on www.visitmanchester.com aim to encourage visitors to go beyond the ‘original modern city’ and explore the surrounding boroughs of Greater Manchester to discover a patch-work of visitor experiences including quaint market towns, traditional pubs and beautiful green spaces and waterways. A further map highlights Greater Manchester’s districts and quarters, inviting visitors to discover the area’s retail, cultural, architectural, sporting and commercial offer.
The maps present the visitor with an image and a short introduction as each area is selected, including travel time from Manchester city centre. When visitors click on a segment, they are directed to rich, informative content featuring ideas on things to do in that area. The colours used for the segments of the map are consistent with Marketing Manchester’s brand identity.
The maps can be implemented throughout the site as required, allowing Marketing Manchester to create themed pages demonstrating each areas strength such as sport, arts and retail.
The launch of the www.visitmanchester.com site by New Mind | tellUs in January 2017 formed part of a major project to create a place marketing platform incorporating a set of destination sites promoting the benefits of visiting, meeting, investing, living, studying and doing business in Manchester.
