New Mind | tellUs has been awarded a contract to redevelop the official website for Hastings and 1066 Country.
1066 Country comprises the eastern half of East Sussex, including the towns of Pevensey, Herstmonceux, Bateman’s, Bodiam and Rye, as well as Battle, Bexhill and Hastings. It is home to Sussex's finest coast and countryside, including the famous historic site on which the Battle of Hastings was fought. Tourism is vital to the area, contributing over £550m to the local economy and supporting over 11,000 jobs locally.
New Mind | tellUs will provide the foundations for 1066 Country Marketing's new 10-year strategy, focusing on repositioning the online image of the region and improving the DMO's digital communication tools.
The new fully responsive site will promote the area's unique mix of heritage and contemporary culture, utilising clean, crisp, high quality images and video and a thematic approach to displaying content and products. Themed itineraries and ideas will be at the fore, offering a flavour of the diverse experiences on offer to different types of visitors across 1066 Country in 24, 48, 72 hours and 7 days.
1066 Country Marketing want to build on the popularity of their busy, year-round events programme. Last year's annual Battle of Hastings Re-enactment at Battle Abbey was the biggest ever, selling out both days due to unprecedented demand. An impressive 20,000 people attended over the weekend, with more than 1,000 actors involved in the re-enactment itself. The new site will provide instant access to events for all ages, budget and interest, with seamless searching and booking functionality.
Debbie Clifford, Project Officer at 1066 Country Marketing comments "Our new tourism website will be a total change to our present one. Working with New Mind | tellUs, it will convey our fresh approach for 1066 Country towards a more cultural and contemporary look but will not forget our famous historical past. We want visitors to be intrigued about coming to the area so 1066 Country will capitalise on its strengths and ensure they get to experience more of the towns and wealth of the countryside and coast."
