Visit York's new website, www.visityork.org has been designed to create an immersive and intuitive experience for business and leisure visitors, from any device.

Developed by New Mind | tellUs in partnership with Visit York, the new future-proofed, responsive site showcases one of England's finest and most beautiful historic cities.  Seven million visitors to York generate £564 million for the York economy, through spend on hotels, eating out and shopping. The Visit York website is a key driver for visits to the city.

The site conveys the quality of York's tourism offer with a stunning selection of newly commissioned photography, shot by local award winning photographer Anthony Chappel-Ross.  A new blog written by social influencers and featuring stories and insider tips for visitors, complements Visit York's extensive image gallery. 

A new dedicated member area offers marketing advice and information on training and networking events to Visit York's hotel, restaurant, retail and attraction members.  Events and festival organisers from across the city and beyond can easily upload their content to promote York's vibrant events programme.

The new site aims to build on the success of Visit York's social media strategy.  The destination has 20,700 Facebook fans, 43,500 Twitter followers, 7,900 Instagram followers and 30,000 Weibo (China) followers.  York's attractions, hotels, shops and restaurants can also integrate their own social media activity with Visit York, elevating their exposure to a wider international audience.  

David Honan, Digital Marketing Manager, Visit York, said: "While PC and tablet use has remained steady, mobile phone usage for researching and booking trips has increased the most in the last year. We needed to respond to this end-user trend and ensure York’s tourism website makes booking a stay in the city as quick and easy as possible but also one which inspires the millions of potential visitors out there to choose York for their next trip."

Sally Greenaway, Head of Visit York, said: "The itinerary planning tool and improved booking system have all been designed to create a ‘customer first’, fully-responsive experience, from the discovery and planning stages, right through to pre-arrival and check-in.  We are continually looking for ways to keep the city two steps ahead of its competitors.  Providing a first-class digital experience, on top of a world-class real life experience, will help us to do just that.

York’s new tourism website was launched shortly after the Visit York Information Centre was named the best in Britain at the VisitBritain Awards for Excellence last month.
