Cheltenham, the Cultural Capital of the Cotswolds is Unveiled

Categories: Our News

The development of a vibrant new site for Cheltenham, the 'Cultural Capital of the Cotswolds' has been successfully completed by the New Mind | tellUs team.

Cheltenham has been described in the New York Times as  'a town enjoying a cultural renaissance' and in the Indendent as a 'Design Destination' due to its great selection of stylish places to eat, drink and stay.

New Mind | tellUs has been working with the destination for over 10 years.  The previous version of the site was developed in 2013 so a new look and a functionality upgrade was required to enable Marketing Cheltenham to achieve its ambitious growth plans.

The new site, forms part of a five year strategy to grow Cheltenham's tourism economy by 5% year on year by 2022.  Marketing Cheltenham’s remit is to promote the destination on a national and international level, encourage more visitors to the town, get them to stay longer and support the local tourism, hospitality and leisure economy.

The site's new eye-catching design aims to convey a bold, contemporary image, in keeping with the destination's reputation.  The vibrant colour palette of the newly designed brand identity is continued throughout the site's pages for maximum impact, complemented by new bigger, better imagery.

The site is a platform for Cheltenham's busy event calendar.  Known as the home of jump racing, Cheltenham is famous throughout the world for the Cheltenham Festival and Gold Cup, four days of unrivalled horse racing action.  It is also known for its festivals and events, including the Jazz Festival, Science Festival, Cocktail Week and the Royal International Air Tatoo, all of which can be highlighted for maximum exposure on the new site.

The new What's Nearby map feature on the site's product pages allows visitors to get their bearings and explore the local vacinity with ease.  The Visit Cheltenham Blog has been a focus of attention for the internal team with great results.  A whole range of topics are covered from Cheltenham's literary connections to Cheltenham Beauty Week.

Kelly Ballard of Marketing Cheltenham comments: "We’re delighted with the opportunity that the new site gives us.  Cheltenham has a lot to offer beyond the known racecourse.  It’s also the most complete Regency town in the UK, not to mention its restaurant offer and array of world famous events including Jazz and Literature.

We need a platform that can present an array of experiences before, during and after a visit. We were also keen to ensure that our platform linked with our partner destination Using the New Mind | tellUs e-tourism solution is important for our members who want to benefit from both markets but who don’t want to upload their information twice.

There's still a lot of work to be done to develop the content on the site but we now have the platform. It was all completed within a tight timescale thanks to the dedicated support of our Account Manager, Matt and the team."

Plans for the future include the development of new stories, tours and packages around the heritage, food, cultural offer.
