Dataset Presents New Opportunities for Collaborative Projects

Categories: Our News

New Mind | tellUs is now able to offer one of the most powerful, rich and accurate databases available in the UK for projects which require access to a wider dataset, whether at national level or for those extending across multiple regions or destinations.

Our Tourism Aggregated Dataset UK (TAD-UK) has been compiled during the delivery of projects with 150+ destinations across the UK and incorporates detailed contextual product data including accommodation, attractions, activities, events, food and drink establishments and retail outlets, all of which are geo-located.

The availability of this data creates opportunities for national organisations (or initiatives) and collaborative projects for DMOs, providers and regional bodies.

An example of a national initiative which has benefited from TAD-UK is our recently agreed project with Tourism For All (TFA), the voice of accessible tourism and travel in the UK. New Mind | tellUs has been contracted to develop a UK-wide resource for disabled tourists and travellers so that they can plan and take holidays and breaks with confidence by having access to all the information that they need.  The new website will be powered by a national database of relevant providers with full accessibility information, using our TAD-UK as its foundation.

Another national initiative is our Visit Heritage project.  Visitors to can find details on historic houses, stately homes, palaces, castles and gardens all over the UK, complemented by places to stay and events information, all populated from our extensive UK-wide database of providers.

The Discover England project for the Great West Way is a collaborative initiative aiming to join up many of England's most iconic attractions and destinations between London and Bristol to create one of the world's premier long distance touring routes. Working with Visit Wiltshire in partnership with various DMOs, national and regional bodies, industry partners and LEPs, New Mind | tellUs has developed the Great West Way website, with our TAD-UK at its core, pooling data from destinations along the route (including Devon, Bristol, Bath, Cornwall, Somerset, Windsor and Maidenhead).

There are multiple advantages to be gained by using the existing data:

  • it's constantly updated, both by the DMO and the provider businesses so that it's accurate, relevant and up-to-date
  • as well as the basic providers' details (ie. name and address) the data is underpinned by a clever set of meta-data, categorising the businesses in a logical manner
  • the data also includes information about national grading schemes and awards, facilities available, catering options, opening times and a wide selection of media
  • many records also include social media data such as Twitter, Facebook
  • accommodation and attractions are also bookable via a variety of booking engines

New Mind| tellUs is currently in discussions with Ordinance Survey and National Trails regarding further projects which will be utilising the TAD-UK dataset. The creation of these high-value distribution channels for destination product will only enhance the marketing benefits of our technology to the tourism providers.

All of our data can be accessed through a fully documented API so that data can be incorporated into 3rd party applications, websites and mobile apps.  Speak to one of our account managers to discuss licensing and pricing options.
