New Visitor Website Aims to Put Nottinghamshire on the Tourist Map

Categories: Our News

A new website for Marketing NG, the official Place Marketing Organisation for Nottinghamshire is set to become the focus of media and tourist attention with the arrival of a new Robin Hood film later this year.

The value of tourism in Nottinghamshire in 2016 rose to £1.755bn, an increase of 5% from 2015, and the number of visits to the county reached more than 35 million.  Marketing NG's brief for the new site is to build on this success by boosting awareness of the area's extensive tourism offer and increasing visitor numbers and spending.

The site,, developed by New Mind | tellUs, aims to inspire the visitor to see more and stay longer by showcasing the region's portfolio of tourism members using stunning imagery, combined with an improved visitor journey. Featuring the organisation's new branding, the site emphasises Nottinghamshire’s credentials as a destination, where visitors can explore the UNESCO City of Literature in Nottingham, escape to a woodland cabin in Sherwood Forest or enjoy fantastic family theme parks.

Larger imagery, accommodation booking via a range of OTAs including, Laterooms and Expedia, social feeds and TripAdvisor ratings for individual businesses all help to increase Nottinghamshire's providers' exposure and stimulate bookings.

The inclusion of an extensive Blog section (previously featured in a separate blog site) delivers a great resource for visitors and helps to boost search engine rankings.

Recent insight from VisitEngland highlights how tourists are increasingly doing more research and planning before travelling, have an interest in creating itineraries and are looking for genuine authenticity in destinations, all of which have informed the look, feel and design of the website.

Sarah McCann, Head of Marketing at Marketing NG comments: "Our new visitor website is light years ahead of its predecessor and will be a virtual window for all that Nottinghamshire has to offer the tourist. Combined with our fresh new brand we want the first-time visitor to be intrigued and excited about coming to the region."

A new Invest in Nottingham website is also being built, to raise the profile of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as a place to do business as well as extending the area's promotion to a wider market outside the region. Conferencing and corporate websites will also follow as part of an ambitious programme of digital growth by Marketing NG.
