New Improved What's Nearby Functionality Boosts Trip Planning

A new improved version of the popular 'What's Nearby' functionality from New Mind | tellUs has been released, providing our destinations with the ability to provide improved trip planning to their website visitors.

Most of our DMOs will already be aware of our What's Nearby functionality which allows tourism products to be cross-related using the geo-location data stored within each provider record in the DMS (Destination Management System).  So for example, a visitor viewing a hotel on one of our destination sites is able to see alternative accommodation, nearby attractions, activities, places to eat and events within the vicinity of the hotel, in a tabbed layout as shown below.

The new functionality takes this a step further by providing the visitor with a map view so that they can see exactly where each tourism product is located in relation to the main product being viewed, aiding trip planning and boosting general awareness of the vicinity.

The viewed product is highlighted (in red in the example above), and the providers in the vicinity are overlaid on the map using icons relating to the category of each business. Clicking on an icon opens an information bubble that displays the name, short description and image of the product, as well as linking to the product for further details.

To see the new What's Nearby functionality in action, check out our new site for Visit Exeter (scroll down the page for the What’s Nearby map).
