New Mind Managing Director Richard Veal delivered a keynote speech at a tourism conference in Portugal earlier this month.
Sibtur 2013 was billed as an International Symposium On Good Practices in Tourism, and the event was organised to showcase the best practice delivered in tourism, both by suppliers, intermediaries and destinations.
Richard focussed his speech around the need for every destination to have a clear “sense of place” and to define and celebrate all that is authentic in their tourism. Drawing on our experience of working with UK destinations such as The English Riviera, The Outer Hebrides, the Isles of Scilly, Liverpool and Cambridge, Richard showed how the unique identity of each place could be clearly presented through their digital channels and that an e-Tourism Platform such as New Mind’s was the most effective way of achieving this.
The two-day event proved to be a great success and also included a fam. visit of the host destination S. Pedro do Sul, taking in both the bio-park and the thermal spa.
Richard would like to congratulate João Pedro Estêvão and the Escola Professional de Carvalhais on the organisation of the event and hopes that they can make Sibtur an annual event on the tourism calendar.
